I’ve been a pro musician for over 30 years. I’m the bassist with UK band Jamiroquai, but have also enjoyed sharing stages and studios with many great bands and singers. Here is an insight into what I’ve done in the past, and what I’m currently involved with.

Jamiroquai Bassist

I joined the band in early 2005 and have played on all recordings and gigs since, as well as some co-writing. What a great band, I love it… what more is there to say… See Galleries for pictures, video and interviews (where I do say more).

Recording Sessions

Tuition

I am a visiting professor or lecturer at many of the music colleges in the UK and Europe eg: BIMM, Royal Northern College of Music, Leeds Conservatoire, LIPA, LCCM, WaterBear, ACM. I’ve held masterclasses and clinic events in many other countries too, as well as my residential ‘bass camps’. I host joint ‘Bass & Guitar Retreats’ together with Rob Harris (Jamiroquai guitarist) under our ‘Boom n Twang‘. These offer our insight into performance, building parts and finding your tone, whilst also offering interaction between instruments alongside a guest drummer. The Jazz Funk Bass Method

I am excited to have released my bass tuition book titled : The Jazz Funk Bass Method. It is published by the awesome Fundamental Changes and features audio downloads, notation and TAB. Most importantly it includes my breakdowns, explanations and insight in to over 100 examples that I have written and recorded especially for this release. These range from rhythm and syncopation exercises and warm-ups, through to note choice, placement and embellishment. Building to example basslines for basic vamps, on to navigating multiple chord arrangements. All aimed to show how to create groovy, funk basslines with personality and hooks. Trioniq

I started Trioniq with my Jamiroquai bandmate, Rob Harris, and Iwan VanHetten of The Brooklyn Funk Essentials. We like old records, especially 70s era. Original soulful funk, written by the 3 of us and recorded honestly, to capture performance, like the records we love. We have released music on the usual streaming platforms, filmed live studio performances and aim to play cool festivals around the universe. We currently have our album titled ‘One Deux Tres’ available in a limited edition pressing on heavy, high quality vinyl (Visit Store). Follow us at @Trioniqofficial on social media for updates.

Groovesonix

This is a guitar, bass, drums & vocal band that brings vibe and energy to any party, with “in your face” covers and re-works. We groove hard, so if you have the energy to dance all night, you will like it!

Credits only include billed live public performance and/or released recording sessions. Not including mime TVs, demos, “guest spots” or jam sessions.
